These are the people you want on your team. In a very stressful and tricky situation with a landlord, I applied for legal aid and was assigned Mercedes Rivas. It was a lucky break for me, because Mercedes not only went above and beyond in terms of ensuring my fair and legal treatment, the service was a delight in all manner of ways. Not least as she explained very clearly her commitment to ensuring everyone has access to *quality* legal representation. I feel this is important to mention because not many firms give the same level of service to legal aid clients as to those paying top rates. Mercedes communicates clearly and efficiently, yet I felt completely seen and heard in all my conversations with her. She was patient, an active listener, and showed a great deal of empathy and humanity. There was never any need to chase or push for attention. Though we communicated in Castellano, English would have been an option if I had preferred. In our initial communications, Mercedes demonstrated the kind of interest, enthusiasm and dedication to my case that gave the impression that she was a relatively new lawyer building up a reputation. (Not that this mattered!) It turned out that she is the Director of this firm, with decades of experience - yet that interest, enthusiasm, and dedication to service has not faded one bit. At the same time that I was working with Mercedes, I had another legal aid lawyer assigned to me for another stressful issue. In comparison to their bargain basement, arrogant, and ego-filled attitude, Mercedes provided the kind of quality professional service that I am sure could not have been any better were I to have been paying premium fees! I would suggest that if you are looking for a legal service as a neurodivergent (ND) person, Parks Abogados would be an excellent choice. I felt respected as a professional without having to hide my concerns and, even when my communication skills were not at their best due to anxiety, Mercedes was attentive, sincere, and validating. My own experience with Mercedes was a civil issue, as I mentioned. Her specialties are in Civil and Labour Law, and in the same firm she has a team that covers every other aspect of the law that you could need. A one-stop shop, if you will. I was so relieved to have Mercedes on my team when dealing with the landlord that I later arranged a paid consultation to gain clarity on my other legal issue, for which the other legal aid lawyer was/is doing such a poor job that it feels like they are on the opposition's side. In case it is unclear, I strongly recommend Parks Abogados for everyone's legal needs; not just for their woman-led, LGBTQIA+ friendly, ND friendly outlook, but for excellent all-round legal work combining both the wisdom of experience and the energy of youth!
