Real estate can be complex on the Oaxaca coast. Use a lawyer! I highly recommend Rivera Associates! Irais represented us and guided us through a home purchase process from start to finish, offered great advice and helped us understand contract options and details, and really knows her stuff. If you’re interested in a specific property, do not go directly to a seller's agent or developer's promotional sales team. Consult with Irais instead She will represent your interests only and deal with the seller’s agents, and can verify the property title, seller’s claims, etc. and help you every step of the way, and can help you avoid issues in your purchase. Even if you're using a "buyers agent" to find property, get Irais' advice as early as possible, because anyone can show you a house, but only lawyers know the laws of Mexico. Irais’s team also handled the creation of a corporation for us, which is quite complex. Her knowledge of which procedures are needed, in what order, and which offices to go to, was very helpful and made the whole thing much less stressful. The experience and relationships of Rivera Associates was invaluable. They work with most of the local and state and national government offices often, and know many of the people personally.
